Located up the road from Jordan River, 30 minutes outside of the town of Sooke and only 1 hour from the picturesque capital city, Victoria, British Columbia.

Go as far west and as far south as you can in Canada and you will come to this part of the world. Mystic Beach Vacation Home is the ultimate get-a-way to the “South Pacific of Canada”. If you like the west coast of Vancouver Island you found your home base here at Mystic Beach Vacation Home.

There are plenty of mountain and ocean views from the cottage but going out to explore the most beautiful trails and beaches in Canada’s South Pacific is streamlined, as the home is  just a 5 minute drive or bike ride away to the access points for some of the most spectacular beaches of the world. Close enough to the city to make a weekend or mid week get-a-away, your days can be enjoyed exploring this wild and abundant coastline.

This location is the perfect place to enjoy the west coast’s most consistent and best surf, kite surf, kayaking or paddle boarding. Jordan River,China Beach, Sombrio and Gordon Beach are all well known as awesome cold water surf destinations. Perched at the top of Timberline Way, and surrounded by old growth coastal forests, the house is embraced by the ancient cedar and sitka trees. Mystic Beach Vacation Home is well positioned to allow sweeping views of the Juan de Fuca Strait.

West Coast Adventures

Aside from visiting the abundance of beaches and trails there are many other opportunities for adventure in the area. Zip lining, Sooke Pot Holes, fishing and whale watching tours and guided kayak tours are all located in or around Sooke, just 30 minutes away.

Eateries

Mystic Beach Vacation Home offers a complete kitchen to prepare all of your meals. If however you choose to take a breakfast, lunch or night out for dinner there are some fine options nearby. Fine dining at Point no Point Restaurant is just 10 minutes east towards Sooke. There is also the delicious and trendy coffee, breakfast and lunch spot, Shirley Delicious, which is 15 minutes towards Sooke. There are many more restaurants in Sooke and Victoria to enjoy as well. We have a full updated list for you to view at the house.

Beaches and Provincial Parks

With a good eye and a little luck, you will see an abundance of ocean life, just from the shore. Sea otters, sea lions, seals, orca whales and a variety of other whales and dolphins. There are also plentiful marine birds, kelp and other interesting west coast inhabitants around here. Arrive at the beaches during low tide and you’ll find sea stars, anemones, and an abundance of shell fish. Please be prepared to pack in what you pack out, there are no garbage receptacles down at the beaches. Help to keep our amazing beaches and west coast waters pristine. Please be aware that you are in bear and cougar country. In the Provincial Park areas dogs are to be kept on leash.

Jordan River Beach

Located only 5 minutes from Mystic Beach Vacation Home. This location is well known for surfing, kiteboarding and stand up paddle boarding (river mouth area is best). Drive down to West Coast Road, turn left and continue down the hill, over the bridge and you will see a parking lot just past the campground. Or, pull into the campground area there is a small day use fee. A beautiful beach walk to the east gets you to a beautiful black sand beach with a waterfall at the end. Outhouse facilities and picnic tables are available at Jordan River Point.

China Beach and Mystic Beach, Juan de Fuca Provincial Park

These two incredible beaches share the same parking area. Drive down to West Coast Road and turn right. Drive for about 3km down the highway, shortly after passing the China Beach Campground you will see signs for the day use parking for China Beach. As you drive in, you will see a parking lot on the right, this is the parking and access for Mystic Beach. Continue to the left for parking and access for China Beach. China Beach is a 15 min easy walk down a well maintained trail through the sitka spruce, douglas fir and western red cedar forest. Apart from some wide steps at the end, you can easily push a stroller down. To find a beautiful hidden waterfall walk west to the end of the beach, and across the rocks. Mystic Beach is also a fabulous well maintained trail, however it is more of a light hike as there are small bridges over creeks, boardwalks, a fantastic suspension bridge, and a long flight of stairs near the end, cut from a fallen old growth tree. It is about a 30 min walk, but absolutely worth it! There are outhouse facilities at both these locations.

Sandcut Beach (Located between French Beach and Jordan River)

Located east of Jordan River. Take the highway and drive 5 minutes east from Jordan River. Look for a parking lot and trail head access just off the highway. A 10-15 minute walk through the cedar and hemlock trees across maintained boardwalks and down stairs will get you to this cobble beach. In the spring, fall and winter, the majestic waterfall flows the best and it a short walk from the beach heading east.It is a park reserve, with no facilities aside from an outhouse in the parking area.

Sombrio Beach, Juan de Fuca Provincial Park

26 km west, approximately a 30 minute drive west of Mystic Beach Vacation Home. Take the Coast Hwy west. Look for indicators for the Sombrio road down to the parking area. Be aware that the road down to Sombrio is poorly maintained and is bumpy. Keep to your side of the narrow road as it is a popular spot for surfing and the road is frequented by many. Pretty much the best surf spot on the West Coast of Canada! The beach is only 10 minutes from the parking. Outhouse facilities at this location.

Botanical Beach Provincial Park, Port Renfrew

41km drive west on the West Coast Rd. (about 1 hour drive). Will bring you to this small fishing community. Enjoy Botanical Beach, rich tide pools and an abundance of intertidal life await!  Be sure that you have enough fuel as there is only one service station in Port Renfrew and none along the way from Sooke to Port Renfrew.
